Outdoor Learning
The importance of outside play
A growing interest in media equipment, such as television, mobile phones, social networking and computer games has contributed to the creation of society where many children live sedentary lives with few, if any, opportunities to access outdoor spaces or benefit from being outside. Despite a shift from outdoor play and learning, it remains essential to children’s health, development and well-being.
At Strawberrys we aim to use the outdoor environment, unique characteristics and features as part of everyday learning.
The garden space and surrounding area provide a continuation of the indoor play area, which is richly resourced with a variety of play materials that can be adapted and used in different ways. Physical activity supports the development of healthy and active lifestyles and promotes a sense of confidence and wellbeing.
To enable children to access all weather conditions, outdoor wet weather clothing and footwear is provided.
